Chiel Boonstra
Director, Trecodome BV
Since 2007, Chiel Boonstra has been director of Trecodome, an international consultancy on sustainable building and renewable energy. He works as an energy consultant to residential and non-domestic passive house schemes in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and China. He unites advanced knowledge about low-energy design and renovation with practical application through a series of successful projects. He is involved in international networks for social housing providers and currently leads a working group on circular economy at the EU–China Clean Energy Centre.
Chiel Boonstra was trained at Delft University of Technology, where he attended the Faculty of Architecture, and his career has focused on work as an energy consultant in national and international implementation and demonstration projects. He has been involved in numerous projects supported by the European Commission, with a focus on social housing; as well as projects led by the International Energy Agency addressing solar energy in building renovation and environmental assessment methods.
In the Netherlands, Chiel Boonstra is one of the initiators of the Passiefbouwen.nl foundation and is a member of its scientific board. On a global scale, Chiel Boonstra is a member of the board of the International Solar Cities Initiative, a platform for knowledge exchange among cities aiming at low CO2 emission levels. The ISCI has hosted global congresses in Daegu, Korea (2004), Oxford, UK (2006), Adelaide, Australia (2008), and Dezhou, China (2010).
